Waalweg, Alpine Pasture and Peak

The irrigation paths, the Waalwege, are paths along the old irrigation canals. These paths are very special in the alpine region. Once they were used to irrigate the meadows and fields, as the Vinschgau Valley is one of the driest valleys of the Alps. Today they are perfect for hiking with children.

In the Vinschgau Valley and the surroundings of Mals there are the most farmed alpine pastures which produce cheese of excellent quality. Moreover, the pastures are popular destinations for hiking such as the alpine pastures of Planeil, Matsch and Schlinig.

Summiteers of every kind get their money’s worth in the tri-border region. Peaks (all between 2.000 and 4.000 meters above sea level) in the Ortler region, in the Ötztaler Alps in the Valley of Matsch or in the Engadine Alps in the Valley of Schlinig offer unbelievable panoramic views with almost unfailing variety.

The most beautiful peaks with a splendid view are:
  • Spitzige Lun 2300 m – the local mountain of Mals
  • Watles 2570 m
  • Piz Chavalatsch 2750 m in the Ortlergroup
  • Seebodenspitze 2850 m in the area of the Lake Reschensee
