The culture region Vinschgau offers numerous sights. Since the beginning, the Vinschgau Valley has been an important passage way for kings and emperors on their way to Rome for their coronations. From these times there are left a lot of churches, castles and monasteries. Worth seeing are for example the Castle Churburg in Schluderns, the Monastery Marienberg above Burgeis and the Church St. Benedikt in Mals. Furthermore, a lot of traditions are lived in the Vinschgau Valley such as for example:
- Scheibenschlagen: a tradition to end the long winter and welcome the spring. People throw glowing wooden disks with the help of a long stick as far as possible.
- Herzjesufeuer: fires are lightened high up in the mountains in honour of the Heart of Jesus. The fires are lightened every year on the 3rd Sunday after Whitsun.
- The Almabtrieb: in autumn the cattle and sheep are brought back down from the alpine pastures to their farmers.
- markets
- Krampusläufe: A “Krampus” is a scary looking kind of devil that accompanies St. Nicholas. A lot of skating exhibitions with Krampus are organized.
