Marienberg Abbey & Churburg Castle
Marienburg Abbey is a place of peace and of power. In 2007, a museum opened its doors in the newly renovated building: in addition to an exhibition of art from the abbey’s early days, it offers insight into 900 years of history and the daily lives of the 13 monks. There is also a permanent exhibition of minerals to be viewed.
Churburg Castle, which was built in the thirteenth century, is one of South Tyrol’s best-preserved castles today. Churburg is particularly well known for its armoury, which contains 50 fully preserved suits of armour. A jousting festival takes place there every year, recalling the castle’s heyday.
