Val Monastero
The Val Monastero, also called the Münstertal and Val Müstair, links Val Venosta with the Swiss canton of Graubünden and lies to the far west of South Tyrol. The greater part of the valley actually lies on Swiss soil and it is only the municipality of Tubre, which belongs to South Tyrol. The main town of the valley, Taufers in Münster or Tubre, lies at an altitude of 1,250 m and has 1,000 inhabitants. There are many places of cultural interest to admire, such as the Rotund and Reichenberg castle ruins, the old churches in Tubre and the World Heritage site, the Müstair Monastery, which lies on the Swiss side of the border. But of course there is also plenty on offer for active souls, for it lies in the midst of a splendid area for hiking, framed by impressive mountain peaks. In winter skiing area such as Watles, Trafoi and Haideralm offer fun on the slopes and the region is also ideal for cross-country skiing and snow-shoe hiking. Val Monastero offers the perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle of the towns. Here you will enjoy a peaceful holiday, in undisturbed seclusion.
